Inspired by the ancient world
Chess is believed to be 1500 years old. Sculptor artist Gavriel Fisher takes us to the ancient world where it all started. The characters take part in the celestial battle between the Golden and Platinum armies.
The celestial Chess is a limited collection of 4 sets. Each set is a hand made unique original.

The celestial chess tools
Over a full year cycle (2020-2021) each one of the 'chess tools' was studied and sculpted in clay 3 times in different shapes before the artist reached the final version of the pieces.

King
The
The king is the heart of the game, its spirit is connected to the player who must do anything they can to keep him alive.The king holds the deepest secrets and through millennia of playing on the board through history he knows that no matter what, there will always be another game. He must let go of the fear of death to play well. The figure is inspired by a combination of Tibetan and Roman influences representing war and peace together.

Queen
The
Female in masculine world. The most powerful tool on the board, as in life. Intuition is a strong advantage if one follows it correctly. Her figure is inspired by the priestess queen Nefertiti of ancient Egyptian mythology.

Bishoph
The
The bishop works in straight diagonal lines, just like the logical mind. It is a very powerful tool. It can nest in a remote corner of the board, waiting for the perfect moment to pierce through the clutter with a stinging attack. The bishop figures stand beside the king and queen and their form is inspired by the medieval king whisperer.

Knight
The
The knight is like the drive, the passion. He marches as a horse does, one foot at a time. Often the impulses move quicker than the mind can think. Harnessing this drive can yield great power. The knight is strong because it moves in an unpredictable way which confuses the opponent - but care must be taken, for sometimes it also confuses the player themself.

Pawn
The
The unique power of the pawn is felt when they form a group. The pawns are the least valuable pieces, but their placement on the board shifts the energy of the game. The pawn is small, almost invisible at times: it has the ability to win the game in a moment of distraction. One pawn alone is weak, but many together form a strong structure which can be difficult to conquer.

The Group
Rook
The
The rooks relate to our defense mechanisms. They are the castle walls that we put up to survive in a world of conflict. In the beginning they are positioned in the four corners of the board, protecting their files. Later in the game, at least one is always close to the king and serves as the last line of defense.

About The Artist
Gavriel Fisher
In this most recent project that took one year to complete, Gavriel created the Celestial Chessboard as a metaphor to the inner conversation we all have in a physical realm. 'We are all players on the board of reality.’ To Gavriel's method: each piece on the chessboard represents a quality; the knight is our drive, the queen our intuition and so on, all of which together reflect on the player’s personality and what qualities rule his game.
Gavriel Fisher, 47, Israel. Learning the secrets of classic sculpture from his mentor Michael Mandelc (Australia) Gavriel practices the 'Henry Moore' studio discipline and holds secret knowledge of sculpture and art production that is being passed through generations. Through three decades of study he has explored the art of light, figure and form.
